Anybody else excited/terrified for 1.5?

It's old but gold. If it could help you out we've probably chucked it in here.

Anybody else excited/terrified for 1.5?

Post by Thelepearchauns » 10 Jan 2013, 01:58

Anybody else excited/terrified for 1.5? Slated for Jan/Feb 2013. It introduces hoppers for collecting large numbers of entities, redstone blocks, nether quartz/nether quartz ore(marble), craftable netherbrick (smelting netherrack like clay) and a whole list of redstone changes

Whats to fear? Its already been stated that some of the redstone changes may disable current circutry. So anyone in redstone should be a bit worried for their past creations

Any new biomes or land stuff beyond the nether ore?

As of right now no, just the changes to the Nether biome. Hopefully the redstone update will not break to many of Team Enigma's puzzles.

TNT Minecarts. Really Mojang? Why is that first thing added from Railcraft and how is that useful to mining. It is better to save some rescores & light ignite the TNT yourself. Looks like another toy for Griefers. :(

Yah Quartz making the Nether popular again.
The hoppers could still be made better though.

TNT CARTS!?!?!?!!?!?!? THIS IS A BAD THING??!?!?! >:O!

I personally think that is fucking amazing that I can now create TNT on wheels. I suspect 23% more of Escapecraft's population will truly "fear me".

I'm looking forward to turning my sandstone house into a white house :D

I can also now replace the use of my ridiculous iron blocks with quartz. I look forward to mining out the nether. ;)

EDIT: Another one of the cool things being revealed lately is that they're changing the way textures are applied. So you could technically "animate" textures, or in other words, have paintings that are animated. :D

Wait, is that a separate block or does it automatically change double slabs into that?

It apparently replaces it. I don't know how I feel about the loss of the original stone slab. I mean, that's the whole look of Corinth being replaced...

Also, you can now even label chests: http://imgur.com/a/EDHrx :D :D

Labeling chests seems kinda cool. Pissed about losing a block to build with, I like the look of stacked stone slabs.

Yeah, I like the look of the stone slabs. But I think I'm ok with this change. I'd really like to have both, tbh.

As for tnt minecarts. Perhaps we will think of a better use for that minecart type......

Technically we already do have both, you just can't make the smooth-sided ones legit. I've used them on a load of my homes and things. Come to think of it, I wonder what will happen to those...

They were used for the nether slabs, I believe.

You may just attract a Hytro or something with all this future nether brick...

Did a bunch of testing the other day with the snapshot, it's awesome. Also came up with a system to automatically return a minecart to the starting position after unloading its items into a chest. Next on the list is a way to auto-organize storage.

Yeah... we're going to get a ton of people hoarding quartz when we get 1.5. Wish it didn't take 4 quarts to make a single block, considering it's purely decorative.

What's the plan for the Nether? Are we going to wipe that, or just keep it as it is?

I'm honestly in favour of some sort of nether regeneration/retirement or some sort, most of it is practically dead itself. Maybe allowing the few players who still actively run their nether properties a move into the new world, but right now it's cluttered full of stuff that really isn't being used any more, and is just eating server hardware.

Linking this new nether to Tolteca only sounds like another possible solution to me as well, just don't know how well that'd work with server performance.

Well, we're not linking a new nether to Tolteca yet - server performance.

Players will be able to generate new chunks in the nether for the blocks. And I'll see if I have time to trim the parts of the nether where no one has buildings to speed that up and make things closer to spawn. No promises, tho.

Well, we could have a repeat of what happened with PvP (maybe to a smaller degree) if we allow for players to spawn infinite amounts of chunks. Just food for thought.

Umm... the nether is already like that. We trim it regularly.

That would be nice. It would be nice to have the new quartz ore closer to civilization, and new, untouched nether fortresses around, also.

Yeah, more fortresses would be good, too.

It might be dead, but if its gone then there goes my fun game of pop and go portal, :D i just started it, you jump into random portals and sometimes i travel really far until i come out another random portal.
But oh well , it is rather deadish.. I understand..
As for the new stone slab, not really likin it i liked the old look it gave it a chisled and worked appearance . this is too much like regular smooth stone now
