GO DONATE BLOOD

Post by MrWhales » 25 Jun 2012, 00:42

Other people need it, and you can make more! Now go do it. But don't feel bad if you're not eligible. I'm about to make an appointment for my 4th time giving whole blood. So you should go donate too. Google donate blood and your country/area.

Do it nao.

I would love to... however due to a rule about gays and bouncy bouncy fun time and such I am not allowed to donate blood.

I'd advocate lying. Unless you shouldn't.

I also advocating subsequent posters not be angry about these policies here. Go be angry at the ARC when you are giving blood.

Oh, Milo, does that disqualify you from donating things other than whole blood?

I saw your sad catboy avatar reading that in my head. Especially the "Bouncy Bouncy Funtime" bit.

All my family give blood, especially since my gramps died of leukemia and had to have several blood transfusions...SO I went to watch my cuz go give blood, because I am usually quite squirmish....and I faint for 5 minutes, wake up not knowing whats going on, and throw up. I have done this several times since this incident, and I have come to the conclusion: me, blood and sharp pointy things= one very ill Ninja.

Long story short- would love to, but can't xD

I've been donating platelets via apheresis for the last several years. It is one of the few completely altruistic things I do, and if you can put up with a needle stick and 2 hours hooked up to a machine, it's a Good Thing to do.

Ninja - Do you have the same reaction getting blood drawn for an exam? For me, there is a difference between watching stuff done to me and seeing others being worked on. With that said, if you still have the same reaction, then blood donations just aren't for you.

At my age I'm supposed to be receiving blood rather than donating it.

I've done it a few times also. I've seen my friend that was donating at the same time pass out right in front of me and had no idea what was going on afterwards. He also started getting weird spots all over his body =\ So yes, it's not for some people. My brother can't do it without passing out either.

@Eddie: Never had to have a blood exam (touch wood never)

But just a general injection makes me faint at the sight of it...so I have to still go in with my mummy and not look at the nasty needle :P

They had to give me this calming drug when I had my mouth operations- that wasn't pretty, and probably made me even worse with injections.
