Star Trek or Star Wars?

Post by Cho » 02 Aug 2011, 12:14

It's an old subject... Which are you a bigger fan of? Strek Trek and it's United Federation of Planets? Or Star Wars and the Empire?

And since this is an old question - we shall pretend that, much like Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, that the Star Wars prequel trilogy doesn't exist. So - back before Lucas ruined the darn series...

D-do I have to pick just one? I love them both... I grew up watching Star Trek next to my Father. I later on found Star Wars in the 4th grade and loved it as well. To this day I haven't picked a favorite of the two. At times, I'll go to a friends house and we'll just watch Star Trek and Star Wars and Lord of the Rings all day; every day for an entire weekend without sleeping.

I suppose, however, if I had to pick one of the two to watch for the rest of my life... I would have to pick Star Trek. As much as I love Star Wars, Star Trek as a whole (series/movies) has a lot more to it that I can get entertainment off. Not counting books, Star Wars only has a cartoon series and 3 good movies out of 6. So, thinking logically (like Spock would), I would have to pick Star Trek.
I'm not running away; I'm advancing in reverse.

I've never seen Star Trek (well, except for the remake movie), so Star Wars wins by default.

It's a pretty entertaining saga, and I have to say I liked all of the movies (yep, even episode 1). Sure Hayden Christensen's acting takes from it a bit, but that's really the only complaint I have - the cast is great overall, and the world is pretty immersive.

Option 3: Both

Yes... that is right, I like both Star wars and Star Trek.
They both have very different themes and I enjoy them equally as much.

I enjoyed doing my Star Trek marathon that I did while back... which is to say I watched all the series and the movies. The Original Series was less corny then I was thinking it was and was fun to watch.

And Star wars has a huge history (Lore wise) that leads for some nice story telling in both movies and games alike.

If I had to choose, I'd pick Star Trek. I prefer more heady, intellectual nature of the show. Star Wars is cool, but at it's core it's not much more than the classic underdog's story. Star Trek actually has social commentary.

On one hand we've got space wizards on one hand and the series that influenced technological development for the last few decades massively.

Always have been more of a Star Wars fan. Also, Star Wars makes for good games. Go Battlefront and KTOR!

I voted Star Wars. Star Trek doesn't have an epic storyline, as far as I can tell. They go to planets, something bad happens, they fix it, and then repeat.

Star Wars, on the other hand, is
Spoiler! :
underlined by a prophecy about Anakin Skywalker, one he fulfills at the very end, bringing balance to the force.
While some Star Trek episodes are great, Star Wars is just amazing.
