Another speedpainting. 30 minutes to get to the first stage, another 90 to get to the second. Trying to get faster.

Looks good. Reminds me a bit of Brink, even though what you made isn't stylized.

More speedpaintings, half an hour each again

I need some opinions. I'm trying to decide if this painting is worth polishing up into a full portfolio piece.

I think it would be, it's a pretty cool composition. Kinda feel like a pattern of some sort for the magic would be cool.

Jake, I know this sounds weird but maybe you should share your images to the Imgur community? It's a very good community and i've seen people with worse art then your get offered jobs and money for the things they draw. The feedbacks good too.

Imgur has a community? I'd just dismissed it as another image hosting site.

*edit*
I ventured onto the site, but encountered nothing but encountered nothing except .gifs, memes and pet photos. If there is a section for critiquing artwork I was unable to find it.

Thanks all the same.

Yeah, DeviantArt is probably the best place to put your stuff.

Deviantart is a mixed bag. You do find some exceptionally good artists on there, but you sometimes have to sift your way through a lot of junk to find them.

I'd be very slow to put your work anywhere on the internet, if it's being graded for college/uni stuff.

Hmm, how come?

Re: Art thread

Well it's probably fine - just be sure you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that the account(s) posting the work are actually you. Plagiarism is a really big deal in universities and your degree could be thrown into jeopardy if they suspect you might have stolen the piece from somewhere.

Personally I'd never risk putting my work on the internet, at least until it's been through the grading process.

Well not putting it online at all isn't much of an option for me. The majority of our marks come from the online blogs we're expected to keep. I do as a rule store the original .psd files locally and only upload .jpegs, but that only works as proof for paintings where I've used layers. I guess my best defense is the fact that I'm rarely producing just one image for assessment; I usually have a series, all in the same theme, responding to whatever the original brief was.

You're right though, it's a risk. I should probably get into the habit of signing my pictures as a extra measure.

A mix of college and personal work. Wouldn't mind some feedback on which of the thumbnails are worth developing.

So, I've been messing around with the 3d modelling and animation software, Blender. Been working on this for the past hour or so. Not even close to being finished. Not sure why, but the render has screwed the proportions of it.

If you're looking for 3D modeling software, try Solidworks. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's the easiest tool you'll ever find to use.

I'll just stick to free Blender. I see no reason to go spend hundreds on a program I'll only be using for fun, and not for profit.

Added a couple bullets, changed materials a bit, and fixed the weird perspective thing. Think I'm done with this thing for today... By the way, this is a fairly low quality render. Integrated graphics aren't really the best for this sort of thing...

What's up with the graininess? Is that a deliberate effect?

It's a nice start, better than my first attempts at 3D at least. Reminds me something a friend of mine made a while back. Are you using reference images, or just making it up as you go?

For anyone interested, here's a look at what I've been working on at college. The end goal essentially being a fancier version of the video.

The grainy effect is just me using low settings, and only 30 passes. Might also have something to do with the materials I'm using, I'm not sure. The only reference I'm using is a doodle of a mech idea I had, sort of Phantom Crash style with a large calliber rifle as one arm, and the other with a hand an undermounted flamethrower. Barrel is completely from scratch though.

That video is looking pretty cool so far.

A painting set in the same universe as the video, showing one of the mages fighting a smaller spirit one on one. Mostly done for fun, since my deadline has already come and gone.

So... in the months since you made that comment I went and got myself addicted to imgur.
After months of lurking, I made my first post this evening. http://imgur.com/gallery/Zm58R

I am in total agreement; Dune is indeed jizz-worthy. So much so that I wore the cover off my original copy, read and reread the many sequels, and even read most of the awful prequels his son put out.

I still find it strange that Imgur has it's own community when it was originally made as an imagehost to facilitate the Reddit community.
