my rig.jpg
Intel Core i7-870k, couldn't be bothered to spring for the unlocked 875k for an obscene markup; 3.2ghz eight-core (w/ hyperthreading), 16gb DDR3 1333Mhz, dual nVidia GTX480's (shoulda waited for the 580s... >_< ), all stuffed into a beautiful CoolerMaster HAF932 tower (3 120mm fans, plus the back fan and that enormous heatsink you see).

Not pictured: 26" ViewSonic HD monitor (Minecraft in 1920x1200 is AMAZING :D ), crappy 2.1 Creative speakers from like 1997.

cba to post a pic, so here's some pretty interweb pics

PC: Dell 670 Workstation
Image
CPU: Dual 2.8GHz intel Xeon's w/ Hyperthreading enabled,
RAM: 4GB DDR2 ECC RAM
Power: 750Watt
Weight: about the same as a neutron star...
HD: 500GB 7200RPM HDD split into OS,backup image and userdata.
GFX: Crap tacular Nvidia quadro FX 1400 (128mb and portal 2 compatible), soon to be a GT 460 or 550 (haven't decided yet)
OS: XP pro SP3/ubuntu 10.10
Monitor:
Image

Cost of Rig so far:
Monitor: £100
HDD: £40
RAM: £80
Rest of rig: £60 (Yes, £60 for 2.8GHz DUAL XEONS!)

How? Dad's workplace decided to sell their old PC's minus hard drives to the workforce so as not to pay for waste disposal...

Also in the rig is a 1st edition Xbox 360 elite, linked up to the monitor by a DVI switch box.

That's a very neat PC interior you've got there. Mine's a mess, wires everywhere, one of the hard drives just wedged in rather than screwed in place, dust everywhere (finally built up to point where I needed to buy compressed air to clear it out, man that stuff's fun to use).

Of course this rig is custom built by me. I plan on adding a second 5770 and an SSD.
It is running an intel Q9550 @ 3.6 GHz, has 8GB of 1333 MHz DDR 3 RAM, and Has (currently) a 500Gb 7200 RPM HDD. I built it January 2010.

MacBook Air is not made for anything serious. It's made to be portable for work purposes, like journalism. That's why it crashes all the time - it's not made to do much. My 'beach ball of death' doesn't exist. I never get it.
