TF2 Highlander.

Post by vallorn » 26 Dec 2012, 06:48

Highlander is a TF2 competitive gamemode where you have 2 teams of 9 players. The interesting thing is that players are locked into their class (For either the match or the entire tournament depending on whether its just a game for fum or a proper competitive tournament) and there can only be one of every class.

Its a common league format and its very popular. Therefore maybe we should see if we could assemble a team.

Dependant on whether my internet is playing ball or not, I can usually keep the medic alive and kicking for a long time.

(Beard can reserve his right to comment on that. As can Steveab and Spy.)

I could do this, Demonman is my prefered class.

And thats our team!

Lets try and get some game time in on tf2lobby.com so we can practice our roles as a group. if not we can just join each others games on Steam and try and coordinate on Pub servers.

How coincidental, Spy is the spy. 8-)

Also, we should arrange a date where we play as a team entirely, sort of like an event. That would be pretty neat.

I should probably point out (if Iron has not yet for me) that my current PC is unable to play TF2. However, using the money gained from christmas I should be able to get a game ready PC soon. How soon that is, I am unsure. Could be next week, could be valve time.

Sooooo, how about we arrange a day for a full proper competitive tournament? This way, everyone isn't all over the place when we do decide to have a full, proper tournament game.

Hmm. could be fun. lets see what we can do after the Christmas hols are over and everyone is all back.

And Ive started a "Bench" for anyone who wants to play so we can switch out if someone don't make it.

I'm a great pyro/scout, and a pretty good demo/soldier. So if any of those people are out I can switch over to those, since dave can be sniper if needed :)

I have some questions:

When you say "competitive" how serious are we talking?
Where would the server(s) be and what sort of latancy is acceptable?
Is there a/what is the minimum skill level? I've pwned my fair share of PUGs and free-to-players, but just messing around on public servers doesn't prepare you against a proper competitive team.

If you're just looking to fill out the bench for some practice games I'm a reasonable Medic or Soldier

I'll also go on bench for Pyro and Scout, I can play fairly decent as both of these.

To answer Jake. I would say we would play a decent number of matches on TF2Lobby to get a feel for working as a team before probably signing up for UFC Highlander's Iron (The entry level) or ECTF2L (The EU equivalent)

Either way we have to probably deal with ping issues for some of our players.

Sounds like we need an EU team and a US team so everyone can play and we escape ping issues. For players not in these areas, you will be forced to face ping issues :)

As long as the server is in Australia so everyone's ping in equally bad

Scratch that; I have equal preference for Engineer, Spy, and Scout. I'm alright at Pyro and Heavy. I can play Medic in a pinch, but the explosive-based classes are some of my worst, along with Sniper.
