Star Citizen

Post by wokka1 » 03 Nov 2012, 14:42

There is a kickstarter campaign going for a game called Star Citizen, made by the guy behind names like Wing Commander, Privateer, Freelancer. It's going to be a space sim on the scale that will make Eve look small with a persistent universe, but also include a single player campaign and the ability to create your own server.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen and http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/

I donate personally to a lot of kick starters that I think will be interesting but I rarely post about them, but this is one that I'm excited about. The video gives a lot of details, and they posted a reddit AMA that answers a lot of questions. As of this post, they are over 2.6million and still going for another 16 days. Their overall goal was 2mill, but due to webserver issues, they have donations split between their website and kickstarter.

Freelancer is one of my all time favorite games, its too bad that Microsoft ruined the game by rushing it, it had a lot of potential and I think they will pull off that potential with Star Citizen.

This kickstarter ends in an hour, they've now raised over 6m USD, amazing.

It should be a great game once its released.

What ships/packages did people get? I bought the Freelancer package and added on the Constellation.

Just thought you guys might like to know they're nearly at $19 million through various fundraising systems. It'll be an interesting game I'm sure, though I think I'll be content to just keep an eye on it for now.

So they should stop their graveling now then. If I had $19mil I don't think funding would be my issue.

Based on what I've seen of the game, it sounds really over-ambitious...

"Our game WILL be the best game ever because we have 19 million dollars and we have the dev who designed all *X games here* and it will be awesome and I'm confident it'll be the best game ever and I'd also like to throw in that all consoles suck and this game is the best game ever!"

Because I didn't feel like editing my last post;
If you are planning on buying a ship, you need to get it before Nov. 36.

This is due to LifeTimeInsurance (LTI)
This means if your ship gets destroyed after your pledged Insurane time, your ship doesn't come back and you must buy a new one. But I have a way of getting LTI for anyone here before Nov. 26.

Feel free to chat with me sometime about this stuff :)

you can Tekno, and i'm sure we will have a fleet, once the game is out. It's pointless to create one at this time

Made a video of my amazing Constellation ship. It is.... beautiful.

So I got the Rear Admiral package which says it comes with only 6months of ship insurance... so that means if I die after that 6 months my ship is dead for good? That kind of sucks.

Actually just read up on it a bit and am not so worried anymore XD I'd just hate to loose my beautiful Constellation.

Damn aero!.....
I want to get more ships but its pretty expensive now.
I did some reasearch into how to get the lti ships, appears that only the kickstartsr backers can gift them for up to one year up till this coming november but even then it is only an lti ship of the ship you gift, from what i can tell, in order to get my constellation lti, id need a backer to gift me a constillation ship which would be another 225 dollars, seems kind of redundant unless if there is a way i can refund just the ship of my rear admiral package for the cost of a new one which i can then pay them back for.... I dont know. Either way, i probably would like to get freelancer, catipillar, and hornet all lti. The idris looks reeeeeaaally cool as well but i dont think i can afford it xD

Im really kicking myself in the butt for not having seen this game sooner.....

yea you have to buy their Space Marshal pledge but you do get most of the other ships on market currently as well as Idris each of the ships coming with LTI... kinda nice... I calculated that if I start saving now and don't spend any major money other than the bare essentials, I should be able to afford it by December..... Merry Christmas to Maykxor.... XD That is if they're still offering that package by then.

Actually brought a tear to my eye the way he beautifully explained the game. Rather entertaining. I wont be able to sleep till 2014.

I think I might even invest in an Oculus Rift. O.O Imagine... Minecraft.. In virtual reality!

Oculus rift: no
It gives your severe headaches and nausea. Also, the idea of having a screen that close to your face? Glasses are enough man.

I can imagine getting far worse than headaches and nausea if I felt like I was in Minecraft.

And looking at the footage of Star Citizen, if I were ever to look past the fact it's an MMO (which for a large variety of reasons is a genre I avoid), seeing it through an Oculus Rift would be pretty sweeeeeet
