Planetary Annihilation

Just thought I'd show you folks this: http://kck.st/NFEGYb

It's an RTS project on kickstarter by Uber Entertainment Inc where, unlike most RTS's, you can build on multiple planets and knock them into each other in order to destroy your enemy. I advise you at least take a look at it. Apparently it's a sort of sequel to Total annihilation (1997).

Yes I am very excited about this and have basically become poor from funding it :D

This game... holy shit it looks amazing.

If only I had money to give them though :(

Is there a sort of deadline or time limit they have for accepting funds before they just scrap everything? Or does this go on indefinitely?

They need $900,000 and as of writing this they have $842,217 and have 17 days left to get the rest. if they get the 900k then they get all that money + any more (See: Goals of destruction) BUT WAIT THERES MORE! Since you can pay by paypal (Although kickstarter wont show it) then after the initial 900k being given towards the base game, the paypal amount could be 200k+ on its own. I think they won't stop donations after the 17 days but all donations from then will be via paypal

This looks really cool. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Well I will try to update this page as much as possible with information on it. So keep an eye out ;)

EDIT: $50k off goal. I am currently jumping around like a little school girl. That is all

Hopefully they add these "bonus goals" as DLCs or patches if donations continue to pour in past the deadline. I'm really interested in finding out what the hell those last three "locked goals" are.

The stretch goals will be added into the base game and I believe all of the stretch goals are community based. I.e. What people have been suggesting. There are somethings they are never gonna add though such as space battles because no.

No space battles? Whaaaaaaat? This whole game is about flying to different planets and making them crash into each other! Why would they not add that?

Re: Planetary Annihilation

Because it would require lots of complex stuff that would detract from making the main game. They we're umming and arring about adding naval units aswell because then they need to make sure they just stay in water.

Well, wouldn't "enhanced orbital units" classify under that?

Re: Planetary Annihilation

Thats more things like death ray satellites and orbital mines for gas giants

Re: Planetary Annihilation

They should at least incorporate some minor space combat in stretch goal five.

Re: Planetary Annihilation

It'd be a lot of work. They'd have to make ships that obey the ingame physics and weaponry that does the same and the physics would be different whilst in orbit. I mean it'd be great yes but may not be feasible. Oh and they are supporting modding so you never know, someone might mod it in :D

Oh also, will this game be free once it comes out, since it's all fans who supplied donations? or will they still charge a fee?

If you donate $20 you get it as soon as its out. Unsure whats gonna happen after the kickstarter though. Oh and its $40 for beta access and the game when its out and $100 for alpha etc etc

We're at that point where there only needs to be 2 more donators at 10k and 5k each to make the game happen :D

Looky! An update!
Planetary Annihilation wrote:Hello Kickstarters!

UPDATED 6:03 PM PST: Clarified minimum requirements for add-ons

In honor of reaching the $1M milestone we are adding a few things to the $95+ tier and revealing our next stretch goal.

NEW ADD-ONS FOR $95 TIER AND ABOVE

Alpha Commander - A unique, in-game commander model designed especially for our Alpha users. See concept art below.

PA Commanders Miniature Set - We’re partnering with a certain miniature company you Kickstarter fans know and love to bring you THREE high quality 3-4 inch miniatures of PA Commanders. These include the Progenitor and Alpha commanders as well as a secret commander that we’ll talk more about later!

If you are pledged at the $95 tier or above you automatically get these additional rewards.

NEW STRETCH GOAL

$1,500,000 - Lava and Metal Planets

We’re excited to introduce two new types of planets- lava and metal. Lava is extremely volatile but provides vast amounts of energy and raw materials. Geothermal plants and liquid metal processing mines provide the next level of resource extraction technology. Build in strategic locations to take advantage of the natural defense provided by rivers of flowing lava.

That’s no moon. It’s a space station! Metal planets are wandering relics of wars long past, giant artificial battle stations that can be recycled or reactivated to bring a new level of destruction. Harness the lost knowledge and brute power of the ancients by repairing their installations. Then take over the control structures and rain destruction on your opponents.

We hit the ground running when we reached our primary goal and started to design and develop some of the Commander concepts further. Here's an early look at the limited edition Progenitor and Alpha Commander:

Hooh wow, they are at $1,060,000, pretty damn close to the first stretch goal.

Yep. I suspect that more money will come in now because of 3 things:
People know it's gonna be made
Pretty damn good stretch goals
Lots of publicity whether it's through famous youtubers (Nerdcubed, totalbiscuit), online articles (Kotaku) or just through word of mouth (Uhh... this thread :D)

Now, if only Bill Gates would come along and throw them a nice $2M donation or some such. THAT would make my day.

Well there are 3 £10k+ backers and 4 £5k backers :D

Also utilising vast intelligence and mathematics skills I've figured out that there will be at least 7 different units.

I've been watching the kickstarter. A few minutes ago I noticed that one of the $15 pledges had been withdrawn; 1 of 5000 was available. I have claimed it.
