SPACE ENGINEERS REVIEW!!!

Post by Iron_Fang » 14 Jul 2014, 08:10

So during the steam summer sales I managed to pick up a copy of Space Engineers (Which is in early access) and I was wondering who else has it and who may be interested in it but are on the borderline so I am making this review!

Space Engineers is a sandbox game similar to Minecraft but in space, it is similar to starmade but has quite a few differences; for me SE:
  • has better graphics
    is smoother
    has updates every Thursday
has better physics wibbly wobbly stuff
    is more user friendly
and it is easier to build stuff
It requires players to collect resources, to build and expand while managing your resources and every single block has different resources needed, armour requires X steel plates, reactors (where you put the uranium to fuel your ship/station) requires computers, construction components etc. and so on.
It supports multiplayer with dedicated servers (Up to 16 players) or you can host it yourself with one or two mates where you can have races, battles and wars using the new faction feature or you can build the Death Star or S.S.Enterprise in creative mode!

A few of the recently added features are:
  • Cargo ships (basically non-player ships) that spawn randomly which you can plunder for loot but be careful, the amount of firepower is not to be underestimated and will take out any unprepared ship with missile turrets and Gatling turrets.
Conveyor systems which can transport cargo from ship to ship, ship to space station or from one part of the station to another.
Different coloured blocks which can help represent different players or factions
and of course factions and dedicated servers (still in alpha)
Here's a video from early alpha last year which shows you what to expect but with a whole year of extra updates and more to come this is a game you shouldn't miss!

Thanks for reading! :D

Looks good.
More like Garry's Mod than Minecraft though, I think.
Probably not my type of thing; but i'll look out for it anyway. Thanks for the lowdown.

I have this game as well and would love to get a group together to play it with!
Orange and white, but not quite right.

I know some of the USSR guys have the game too :D And how does it look more like GMod? Minecraft and Space Engineers are both sandbox games with building blocks, GMod uses props in the sandbox enviroment!

Also if anyone is playing then you should post your current builds on here!

Last week's update:

Battery block and new power cell component have been added into the game. Communication relay makes now possible for signal to travel through multiple friendly Antennas; enemy signals that reach one antenna are relayed to all friendly players within your antenna network. You can merge ships while pasting in creative mode and we also added client-side saving and permanent death as a world options.

Will post this week's when the update hits today :)

This week's patch:
Pistons have been added in Space Engineers - they can be used to build advanced machinery. Also, faction founders and leaders can now enable auto-approval for new members. Players will now be able to see a notification on HUD when somebody is hacking/grinding their ship (does not apply to armors). Thrusters can be used without cockpit - through the terminal - which enables the option to create missiles with warheads, turret countermeasures, small drones which grind enemy ships by using grinder and other. Blast door blocks has been also added in the game; it's similar to armor, but thinner, so it can slide between two layers of armor (very useful for airtight door and hangar bays).

It's fun, but no fun alone. So if someone wants to figure out a server I would give it a go.

Yup gotta agree with motor, if we got a server it would be fun but I don't see much of a point in just going it alone.

Someone with hardware has to step up or we have to rent a dedicated server. Renting dedicated is.. expensive. http://spaceengineershosting.com/
