I downloaded gimp earlier today, and when I got on... There was TONS of buttons everywhere and I had no idea how to use it. I was wondering if any of you guys know a program that similar to
gimp.organd that's free. And maybe a link to how to use it, as for some reason I can't find any tutorials or anything, thanks guys. -MaTt

Depends what you need to do with it. Photography? Image manipulation? Digital painting? Graphic design?
Those myriad of buttons may be daunting when you start out, but you only need a handful for most tasks and you'll pick up on the others as you go.

You should try paint. An example that paint isn't crap is everything zin has ever made on it.

When I first started using Gimp I had never used anything more advanced than paint. Play around with the stuff, figure out what it all does. And if you want to do something specific you can google it and find videos and how-to's.

If you're trying to make art in GIMP... use layers. They are good. Other than that, look up tutorials on google or something, or get someone you know IRL to help teach you.

One of the things that helped me out was looking for image creation tutorials on google, if it's a decent one, it will tell you what does what and you'll get examples of everything.
It's what I use for image manipulation.
