Blender

Post by aeroeng15 » 04 Jul 2012, 00:02

Hi there.

So I want to possibly make some minecraft animations using Blender, but the tutorial vids I find are utter crap cause they don't explain much or rush through everything so that I end up even more confused. Any suggestions for a better (free/cheap) animation rig, or a really good tutorial for Blender?

The student version of Maya is free for 3 years, it's a very powerful toolset. 3D suites are all very similar though once you get past the superficial differences. Getting used to the UI is arguably the hardest part of learn any new program.

Modelling and rigging Minecraft mobs/environments should be very easy. Asset fidelity was hardly Notch's strong suit when designing the originals. The tricky part is to find a shader that won't leave everything looking overly plastic.

Blender is probably my favorite 3d animation software I've tried, even though I suck at it.

Youtube has some good tutorial vids on it, but other than that it's just a lot of practice and trial and error.
