When I hear Jesus, I think of the Arabic man that was thought to be a prophet by many, and brought them joy and happiness with their beliefs.

He's just a man to me, nothing special.

(I am not of the christian faith, figured I'd put my two cents in anyway.)

I think of an amalgam of the many similar messiah, savior figures of the period whose life story was mixed with elements of paganism to male it palatable to those living in the Germanic and Scandinavian regions.

Val we need to talk on mumble sometime. How are you liking "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins, is it worth my time?

Very much so. he's an excelent writer even if his argumentation style is a bit lopsided.

Val, what do you think of "The greatest show on Earth?"

About "The God Delusion" I do not like the comments Dawkins makes about God at the end. They can be very offensive to a religious person and amongst my school (It is a Christian one), teachers constantly speak against Dawkins just because of those comments. I still would like to check the book out however.

Dawkins actually notes at the beginning of the book that he is not handling religion with kid gloves to prevent offense because he believes that it doesn't deserve as such.

Actually he notes this in the first chapter of his book the quotes of which are:
It is possible that religious readers will be offended by what I have to say, and will find in these pages insufficient respect for their own particular beliefs (if not the beliefs that others treasure).
A widespread assumption, which nearly everybody in our society accepts - the non religious included - is that religious faith is especially vulnerable to offense and should be protected by an abnormally thick wall of respect, in a different class from the respect that any human being should pay to any other.
What is so special about religion that we grant it such uniquely privileged respect?
It is in the light of the unparalleled presumption of respect for religion that I make my own disclaimer for this book. I shall not go out of my way to offend, but nor shall I don kid gloves to handle religion more gently than I would handle anything else.
Hopefully that (Being the subject of the entire first chapter) should sooth your teachers vitriolic anger at the denouncement of religious faith at least in part.

Unsure. let me see.

(15 mins on google later)

Yes but its an illegal pirate download so Im afraid I cannot endorse it.

If however you do get the book, im reading through a very interesting list of counterpoints from a christian theologian to get the contrasting viewpoint on this matter:

I really like this book. It is very well written and Dawkins is right. I think any theist should read it and any atheist but I think of it this way, if Christianity (my somewhat religion) is true, thenwhat do I have to fear. Even before I read it (as I still do believe in God), I pray that God guards my mind. I also asked those Christians who are against it because "it is offensive and they do not want to put this trash in their heads" what they have got to fear if their religion is true.

Yeah people need to stop treating some issues like they are off limits. No one ever accomplished anything without a little controversy.
