Solake 3.0 discussion thread

Post by wokka1 » 28 Feb 2011, 00:37

I'm pleased to annouce the grand re-opening of Solake. I'll use this thread to discuss the city and building plans, its just easier this way than using PM's.

Settlement Owner: wokka - Managers: Serubin323 & mymanjake

Settlement Rules:
  • Must ask for plot. No building past your boundary (not even an overhang), nothing higher than 15 blocks, depth is unlimited (stay within your property lines
  • House design has to be approved by the manager or owner.
  • Don't make houses look ugly.
  • If you decide to leave your home permanently, then destroy it.
  • Abandoned houses for more than 2 months can be destroyed by the Owner of the city, reasonable attempts at communication will completed first.
The city is not complete, but it's in a state that I'd like people to stop by and give your feedback. Many of your will rejoice in the lack of dirt buildings.

The city is larger, but has fewer overall plots. I don't like cramped cities, so the plots are much larger, and have lots of room between them.

We are looking for active residents that want to be around a nice looking city, and that will help make it better.

I'm torn on shops, they tend to be rarely staffed, but can be decorative if done properly, if you have ideas on this, let me know.

We currently have a museum, and various artistic builds around town. There is a functioning public tree farm for residents under the the main Park. The main Park hosts our aquarium with 5 pet squid. We feed them seals daily, come watch the feeding, it is quite entertaining.

Most days you will find the USS StormTrader docked, where some residents party and live, stop by and share a drink. Rooms are available, contact Serubin.

Solake also has a public hospital for any travellers or local residents to use, follow the signs to it from the central road.

Jake and Serubin are the city managers, making sure the city is well lit and all roads in good repair. Ask them if you have any questions, or if you are interested in a plot. wokka will have final approval of any new residents.

The apartment building is also open to new residents.

And a video tour by Serubin323:

Well before I even think about selling I want to fix it up. It's still a definite maybe. And again Wokka may have taken it from me in which case I have a nice little argument to get it back. :P

I have to say, I've visited it a couple of times and it's looking really good. I'd apply for a plot, if I didn't have three houses already.

Maybe in the future though. :)

Yeah, if you want it, I have no plans for it, just don't make it ugly.

Library, meh, unless you can build one and find a way to make it unique. The museum I did differently, just to make it unique from others, it's underwater, so think of ideas like that.

Jails are pointless, unless you can make them decorative, we have the reed/wheat farm online.

Tunnel would be nice, however, I'll have to plan that carefully, houses are allowed to go down as deep as they like, as long as they stay within their plot. The tree/wheat/reed farm is under the central park and hospital, so are safe.

Serubin, grab some screenshots of the town, and above (sky lift) or even better, if you can put together a video (doesn't have to be long), showing the town, etc, that'd be really cool

Lots of people have stopped by to see the new features, but for the people who are too busy to travel, the video would be a nice touch.

If you are asking what to video in town, just move around, looking at all of the redone areas and the new structures.

If you are asking about software, I use fraps, but its not a free tool. I know some talk took place in the support thread with another software, or ask what others use.

Go north to crossroads, then follow the road north and east and then north again. There are a few signs up along the way to wokka's World, which is far north of Solake.
