So pete82683 was kind enough to send me the Minecraft 1.4.7 update because I didnt have it. However, when I put it in my Roaming folder, it will not start up. It keeps coming up with the following message:

*** MagicMinecraftLauncher 1.0.0 ***
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.minecraft.client.Minecraft
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
at magic.launcher.Launcher.main(Unknown Source)

can anyone please help me figure out what is wrong? Also, sorry if I missed a thread for this sort of thing. Thanks for any info

Couldn't you have just updated normally, it should've updated you to 1.4.7, there isn't a newer version released yet.

If you are running a vanilla minecraft client, did you not receive the prompt asking if you want to update or not? If that didn't work, did you try selecting "force update" on your minecraft client?

I'm assuming from that error message that pete sent you a version of the update intended for Magic Launcher, and you're either using the vanilla client or for a different minecraft client. My best advice to you would probably be to clear your .bin folder (as in, delete it) and relaunch the vanilla minecraft launcher (make sure you select Force Update), and reinstall your minecraft files.

If you had any modifications installed, I'd recommend reinstalling those as well once you redownload the proper minecraft files. Hope it helps :)

Delete your minecraft/bin folder, get new copy of Minecraft, get MCVC from http://mcvc.in/ to change your version to whatever you want, problem solved.
