Signs, leaving messages, and you

It's old but gold. If it could help you out we've probably chucked it in here.

Signs, leaving messages, and you

When you create a sign, it is locked (by you) automatically. While you may expect that the block that it is attached to is also locked, it turns out that the surrounding blocks are locked as well.

Why is this important? Well, when you're leaving a message for someone else, you can accidentally lock their blocks. So please take the time to remove the lock after you create the sign. The command is

/cremove

and then punch the sign.

This way, once the person has read the message, they can remove the sign.

Also highly recommended is that when you create a message board (like on your house), that you place a reminder sign that tells people leaving you messages to do a /cremove on their message sign. This way, you don't have to wait until your friendly neighborhood mod (or the person who placed the sign) is available to remove the lock.

Another recommendation concerns plot signs. If you make plot signs and allow other people to assign the plots, be aware that they won't be able to build on that block or remove the sign unless you unlock it. Certainly, there are good reasons to keep the plot signs locked until the plot is assigned. Just realize that only you or a mod can remove the sign (assuming you're allowing others to give out plots). I've been tending to put my plot signs on the edge of the plot so that at least the new owner can build around it rather than having it in the middle of their new place.
