Well i have been brewing up this idea for a while and its either going to end up as a smashing success or a pretty thing to look at >_>

This idea started when building my Flagship in fyra, it got rather big and a few others are starting building smaller ships to form a fleet.. And this thought hit me...
We could have a battlezone!
Some of you may go " whats that?" and basically it would be a small pvp area where we could organize special pvp matches. the main one being this battle as i thought "how cool would it be if we could fight On these ships!"
The most obvious question is, "why not make it in the dedicated PVP server??
the simple answer is, people would wreck it, theres bound to be one person who would wander over with tnt and ruin the fun. this method provides a (slightly) more controlled PVP match that would using teams. (as far as im aware we don't have some kind of team mod so id have to ask the players to change their skin to a certain colour or something.)
So the idea would be that, provided the players follow the rules, it would be a ship on ship battle with tnt cannons blazing and players leaping from ship to ship capturing them by bow and sword.
It should be barrels of fun and everyone could potentially take part and it could become something realy fun for everyone ^-^

I have been wanting to attempt this for a while so i thought id give it a go.
If you have any idea's or suggestions post em below, no off topic things please.

EVENT 1
Intercept and destroy
DATE: Saturday 5th of june 12pm(lunchtime) (english time...GMT? idk...)

RULES
@ This is a team battle, please don't kill your own team mates.
@ Players will start on their respective ships
@ All participants will have to use a Certain skin, for lack of a pvp faction mod.
@ ALL equipment will be provided by the event, no need to bring any diamond Armour or stacks of tnt :)
@ You may board or get onto the enemy ships by ANY MEANS NECESSARY, provided you follow rule above :)
@ The first battle will be capture the loot, then after a cuboid restore and equipment restock it will be a Flagship capture match, then finally it will be a team death match.
@ No gloating or name calling, don't want anyones feelings being hurt :P
@ The basic rules of good sportsmanship apply
@ players are allowed to tear up the enemy ship as much as they like.
@ Feel free to capture and ransom enemy captains or commanders.
More rules will be added later.

CLASSES

@ Ship mate : The basic crew member of ships
Equipment: Leather torso and pants. iron sword. Bow with 6 arrows. Fishing rod. bread x3

@ Wrangler: Specialists for ship assault.
Equipment: ladders X15. Fishing rod. leather boots and pants. TNT x1. iron Axe. cooked pork x1

@ Musketeer: Gunners and support infantry.
Equipment: iron torso. leather pants. Bow with 64 arrows. Stone sword. bread x1

@ Grenadier: (CONTRIBUTORS ONLY) These specialists use explosives as there main form of offense.
Equipment: Iron torso and pants. TNT x3. Stone sword. Cooked pork x1.

@ Captain: These are the leaders of an individual ship and are second only to the commander.
Equipment: Iron torso, Iron pants, Iron boots, Leather helmet. iron sword, bow with 2 arrows. (pistol)
Cooked pork x2

@ Admiral: These people are unique in a battle and are the controlling officer of that teams forces. Everyone in that team must follow the commands of the commander.
Equipment: Diamond torso, Iron pants, iron boots, Gold helmet. Iron sword. Bow with 2 arrows. bread x3
Gold block.

Location:
FYRA
X= 200
Z= -400

2 Sides.:

The royal marines:
These are his majesty's soilders serving in the escapian sea's and are escorting a valuable cargo of precious metals across the ocean.

The privatiers (Pirates)
In thier mighty ship, the Black Earl, These pirates are looking for some plunder and a good fight!

Heres a little taster for those of you who cant wait ;)

The captain stood at the bow of the mighty HMS Iornwall. The harsh wind caressed his hair and tugged gently at his long elaborate tunic. He stared into the thick fog that clung to the horizon, but saw nothing. There never was anything. Though he seemed to cling to the mad thought that if he stared at the horizon long enough, land would show itself. He breathed a weak sigh and decided on one last sweep with his telescope before he retired for the night. He produced the brass telescope from his belt and brought it to eye level, focused on the horizon. His vison swept across from side to side, nothing. Then he stopped. He thought he saw something in the fog. He swept back to it. His eye's strained on the fog. A flash of light shone in distance for a moment. He thought for a fraction of a second before he realised what a just happened. His eye's widened in horror as the iron ball slammed into the hull of his ship and the thunderous roar of cannon fire erupted from the fog.

Thanks to wokka we WILL be in a PVP world for the events but we will be BUILDING the ships in fyra and then copy/paste into a PVP for us to enjoy. And the pvp world is not ... well ... the usual PVP world :lol:

IMPORTANT: HOW TO FIRE TYPE 11 CANNON
Step 1: locate the lever on your cannon, make sure there is 2 propellant charges in the barrel and one on the halfstep.
STEP 2: Pull the lever to activate the propellant charges
STEP 3: Manually hit the halfstepped TNT to ignite the "demo charge"
STEP 4: thats all there is to it, step back and watch.

SKINS LOCATED BELOW
Due to lack of a team mod you will have to change your skins to your respective teams skin, sorry but ts the only useful way of telling teams apart. ope you like em, but i shall be asking zin about making some nice ones for us to use :P

Yess. I love the idea. You know what would be even more awesome? If you could reset it, so that when the match is over, you wouldn't need to rebuild the armada. In that case, however, players would have to build the cannons themselves, I guess - since otherwise, winning would be a matter of latency, not of skill and tactics.

Dude! We could make a movie out of this!

i think a Fleet Based team PVP map would be great and would certainly fit in the old Ver3 storyline!

I haven't played in ages.

Where the topic went? I don't know, we haven't really worked with the subject.

Anyway, another thought crossed my mind.
While I LOVE the idea of players blasting away with cannons - wouldn't that be just a little bit limited? I mean, there's only so many places you could put them / use them (when already planted on board)... my thought here is: in the end, would that be a factor of fun, just trying to load up the cannon faster than the enemy?
I think it would have to be possible to (re)deploy the cannons and/or adjust the strength... (then again I don't know whether there is already, by original design, a certain amount of scattering)

Either way, the ship would definitely need a few crafting benches so players could go naval via their own small boats and battle on sea, one on one. Boarding the enemy ships could work via ladders in that case.
Problem here, of course, could be that said enemy ship is being bombarded with friendly fire just while you're on there...

Couldn't this perhaps be made into its own world, with a team plug-in that prevents damage from friendlies? As for cannons, you just have to communicate with your team I guess. I think the idea sounds like a lot of fun.

As a note - I will be sponsoring this and setting it up, managing it ect. However, Aro is still in charge of the event, I will just be managing the technical side of things, and making sure nobody is being innapropriate/rude/ and making sure people stick to the rules of the event.

Allright! We have the go ahead (thanks to xdelphi)
I will edit the first post to incorperate the first event.
Everyone give a big thanks to xdelphi and any other mods who help us :)
And i will post some fun story bits to help set the scene for the battle :D
Oh and we wont be doing anything until version 1.6 as the trap doors will be ever so useful.

poke Beard into helping you with some of his devices to make this better.

my suggestions:
1 Boarding [Bridges] between boats
2 TNT Cannons on every boat
3 Enable Firespread
4 have things like Reefs and rocky outcrops in the water.
5 maybe set up a system so if you fall in the water you get TP'd back to your home ship?
6 make the password Blueteam :lol:
7 maybe have some ships with darkened holds that spew out Zombies and Skeletons? (call one the Black Pearl)
8 arange so that the area gets Reset after every game by the appropriate Admin/Mod/OP
9 set it up so that there are hidden stashes of food and suchlike throughout the zone for players to look for while they fight.
10 make different gametypes possible so people dont get bored.
11. make it so you can easily expand/ change things if you need to.

just my 11 pence worth :D

This is exactly what I would sign! Apart from the public password. I'm sure there's many ways of securing the area while/before a match (runs). I've seen this spleef match where every player had to announce his status as one via a slash command. Maybe we could have something like this from mod-side, giving out the player-status to every taker.

Oh, also, a suggestion.
Since it's the nature of pirate captains to be second to nobody, may I suggest the pirate team has no admiral, just captains (and perhaps one of the captains can be nominated or something?)

Another idea: Depending on how many ships we eventually get, didnt you mention something about a center island the players have to fight over (disregard ships, aquire booty)? We could make a capture the flag kind of gameplay (flags on the biggest/central ship) or maybe some kind of king of the hill (on said island) as well.

The events date will be decided after the server is updated to 1.6, or when we finish the ships.

UPDATE
Good news everyone!
Thanks to wokka we now have our own little cosy space in the enigma map where we will be hosting the events.
I will be testing the first mission tomorrow to see if i need to fix anything, feel free to poke me and join in the test. People who hepme test will also get bonuses in the actual events :P
Righto so the Very first event will be a simple 1 on 1 fight to the death between the 2 flagships, im starting out with the basics before adding more things and more ships :P
I have a date for the first event too.
Look at the first post for any changes i have mentioned :D
