Fireside Chats With SneakyPie

Post by SneakyPie » 18 Feb 2011, 16:55

I had a blast chatting with you all and would like to continue it.

How often should we have these chats?

If you missed today's chat you can check it out in DropBox.

Just a note that the first recording is now uploading to the Dropbox. A lot of the recent drama is dealt with, so it may find it worth listening to. Just set aside a large block of time, as the thing is nearly two hours long.

I'll play with the encoding settings later to see if I can lower the file size.

Also, is that what I sound like to you guys? Damn.

Bi-weekly sounds like a good number. It's not so often that there'll be nothing to chat about but not so rare that a lot of topics get dumped on you at once. I haven't listened to today's yet but i'm looking forward to it.

While doing that was a fair bit of fun (I've never done anything even REMOTELY like that before), I feel that there is room for a great deal of improvement. I'm open to suggestions as to what I can do to improve this. I've got a few ideas about what I can do to streamline the question submission process, but I would like any input you guys (especially those who listened live) can give me.

Also, for future incarnations of this, I will try my hand at editing the recording to remove all the dead air. I felt that the information in this one needed to get out quickly in order to defuse the tension surrounding the Haxx Conspiracy. Also, I had to leave as soon as I got the raw audio uploaded to Dropbox to attend a tabletop gaming convention.

well if we keep it so people have a space to comment without being told to stop typing that would be good.

and the question process seemed to include only a few individuals who made a lot of questions and many individuals who made very few questions.

I might be going out on a limb here and this might not be the smartest thing to do, however maybe not muting normal players and letting them ask the questions. I found that once the mute ended it was not a massive shit storm like i thought it might have been.

There is a way I can manually unmute people, though it involves manually muting each user as they enter the chat instead of disabling ability of guests to transmit in that channel. It's a bit more work for me, but if I can figure out a way to streamline the question submission process, I'll have the time during the chat to actually do that.

um heres an idea :

1 Mute every user except Mods before the Chat starts

2 in the Chat say whos gets thier turn next

3 introduce them in the Voice server

4 unmute them

5 after thier question is finished (question or answer) remute them.

if Sach does 2 and 3 and another person does 1, 4 and 5 this could be a very effective process

Alright, It looks like we'll be doing this on a Bi-Weekly basis which is good.

I'll setup a sticky explaining more details and asking for questions for the next event.

I'm nearly finished listening to the recording - it's interesting hearing the different users' voices. :)

Also, it's nice to hear everything explained properly, hopefully I'll be able to attend the next one.
