would taking down the server for an hour a week for cartographer to run help?

I don't think so, when I run cartogrpaher, map saves are disabled, so the files are static. It's not a lack of processing power (that the server is taking up too much), I have plenty of that in reserve, it just gets to a point on the map and freezes, no errors. My gut feeling is that its a map corruption problem, but I don't know where. I thought it was a cuboid problem with the old fire temple site, but I did repair that.

Now, I'm hoping for the map save file update from Notch to resolve it.

it just freezes? i get that every time i try to generate a world map, i just wait 5/10 min depending on the size of the map and than it still gets finished?

Well, I thought about that donky, and I let it run 11 hours, so I doubt that will fix it.

Drox, not at this time, the map is getting quite large.

Is it possible to 'pull' the cartographer file at a point when it's hanging to try to localize the issue?

Well, the static map creates fine, its the dynamic google api map that is failing, its 177 meg, 11769 files when it stops, it does it by lots of small tiles. So no, that doesn't help

an update of any kind is impossible at the current moment.

Ok, I thought the static was doing its thing, but some of it is generating and some isn't, and it seems to be partially a script issue with my setup. I think it's fixable (static maps), I'll just have to spend some time working on it.

Hopefully I'll update this sooner.

FYI wokka cart is still ongoing through a restart. The one at that time goes for 15-20 minutes too. Could this be causing an issue ?

Restart won't affect it, but its erroring out worse now, I've disabled it again, will evaluate it when I have time.

The googlemap is not updated, however, I do have a static image for you, its 20meg, so hard on computers, I highly advise if you can't get it to display, to right click on the link, save as, and save it locally.
