AUA - Podcast Edition

After the relative success of our Question and Answer Podcast, we're giving you the opportunity to ask us any question you forgot to ask during the podcast. You can use this thread to direct any question of your choice towards either Myself, Rockbeefchest or TyreseEngineer and we'll do our best to answer them.

Be Warned: We won't answer questions which delve into our private lives and we're going to get annoyed if someone posts completely stupid questions five times in a row.

How successful would the podcast need to become for you to consider investing in more professional recording equipment?

Have you considered inviting guests from outside the Escapecraft community?

Do you advertise the podcast anywhere outside of Escapecraft?

My answers may differ to other people's but...
1)Quite successful- I don't have a great deal of spare money so just for the podcast it'd need to be pretty good! I *am* looking into a better microphone but when it appears depends.
2) Not as far as I am aware, but it would be pretty cool to do at some point
3)Not yet but I've been telling and showing it to people I know so I guess that's kind of "advertising". Probably something we should look into.

My own two cents:

1) Also successful, not going to lie that having a professional recording studio wouldn't come in useful in other areas, but again, monetary restrictions and other commitments are going to hinder this.

2) Got a contact list?
In all seriousness, I would like to do this and soon for that matter, we're running out of staff to drag in!

3) iTunes advertisement is not far on the horizon, but that's all for now, we can work our way up from here.

No need to go to as far an actual studio. A good mic and a pop filter in a room without excessive eccho is enough to get you 80-90% of the way there. It'd take a few hundred £/$/€ to get the three of you kitted out. An investment certainly, but not crippling. All moot for the moment of course, you need an audience first.

Depends what sort of people you want to interview. I know plenty of student artists, animators, and 3D modellers. The key word there however is "student", they can offer insights into their various specialisms and some of the work that goes into making a game, but have little to no experience of actually working in the industry. I have an aquaintance who worked on a pretty cool indie game and another who runs a moderately successful youtube gaming channel. I've fallen somewhat out of touch with both of them though, so I couldn't guarantee anything.

I would say we should immediately start thinking about this type of investment after we have been released on iTunes and have been recognized by some people outside if the server such as gaming media or websites. If and when this occurs we are playing for fun anymore and enter the world of game podcasting and should conduct ourselves accordingly including better macs and better noise control.

We have had some suggestions for this yes. Nothing set in stone yet, but there was one possibility. I am not going to jinx things by talking about it here. Suffice it to say that it is a goal to have a variety of guests from in community and out.

Currently we are keeping the podcast in house. The reason being is that thus far I see the casts as a proof of concept. Sort of our training ourselves to conduct interviews, banter, quip and do the technical stuff. Once we iron out the kinks and create a product that casts the community in the best possible light we can expand into outside advertising opportunities. The casts are too raw in my opinion to expand the reach too greatly at this time. Baby steps here, don't want to get to big too soon and get shit reviews right.
