AMA - wokka version

Post by wokka1 » 04 Nov 2012, 19:55

AMA stands for Ask Me Anything.

It can be about the Escapecraft Community, Minecraft stuff, multiplayer stuff, anything.

So, open up the questions and I'll post the answer.

I have a variety of hobbies, not including Escapecraft. I read a lot of SciFi and Fantasy, I watch a few TV shows and a few movies, I cave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caving) which is one reason I really liked MC when I first saw the game, you could explore virtual caves.

I also play a few computer games other than MC, ranging from FPS to RTS and just about everything in between.

What sort of music do you listen to? Also, what would you like to see the most in a Minecraft update?

I mostly listen to hard rock, lately its been Disturbed, Godsmack and Korn.

I would love to see server growth, stability and scalability options, preferably something along the lines of true multi-threading and also the ability to cluster servers. Basically, fix mah lag!

Caving sounds interesting. I sould love to do it sometime. What I might get to do next year is go on a school spelunking trip if they still offer it.

When is version 4 coming out? Sorry, that one was just for nostalgia.

What would you do with Escapecraft if you had access to unlimited resources?

What's your favorite food? Is it something that could survive a trip through the mail?

Which is your favorite Escapecraft world?

What's the craziest hairstyle you've ever sported?

If there were a way to gain 10 years of experience overnight, what skill(s) would you learn/improve?

How far would you be willing to walk for a free pizza?

Does the Minecraft of today bare any resemblance to what you might have expected/predicted back in the alpha/beta days? Do you like the direction Mojang went in?

When it's done, and yes, we are still making slow progress on this.
Jake55778 wrote:What would you do with Escapecraft if you had access to unlimited resources?
A much bigger server cluster, and if money was basically unlimited as well as hardware, I'd hire a team of developers just to work on things to optimize the performance and fun of the server.
Jake55778 wrote:What's your favorite food? Is it something that could survive a trip through the mail?
It really depends on my mood, but probably a good steak, and sorry, mailed steak just isn't any good. If you are ever in Texas Jake, I'll treat you to a great one :)
Jake55778 wrote:Which is your favorite Escapecraft world?

Probably Ver 2, since that is the one I started with
Jake55778 wrote:What's the craziest hairstyle you've ever sported?
Long hair, down to my ass
Jake55778 wrote:If there were a way to gain 10 years of experience overnight, what skill(s) would you learn/improve?
how to properly pick winning lotto numbers :)
Jake55778 wrote:How far would you be willing to walk for a free pizza?
Free pizza, meh, the best pizza ever made, I'd probably walk a ways for that
Jake55778 wrote:Does the Minecraft of today bare any resemblance to what you might have expected/predicted back in the alpha/beta days? Do you like the direction Mojang went in?
Since the admin in me really still focuses on the server performance side of things, I would have really hoped that they would have done a lot of changes to help us with it, but I'm not too terribly surprised that they haven't. Mojang has always focused on SSP it seems, with SMP being an after thought.

Not quite, here is a pic of my bike: http://wokka.org/misc/zx6r.jpg

Sadly, I don't have any pics of me on the bike, but I'll see about resolving that.

I'm a fan, I wouldn't call myself a big fan, thanks to Netflix, I've seen all of the episodes. My favorite all time tv show is probably Firefly, sadly it wasn't around very long. As you can see, I'm not one to change avatars very often. This was my first avatar with Escapecraft.

Fillion is a great actor, but I preferred him as a space cowboy, his other stuff isn't my style.

What was the first game you ever played?

Do you travel abroad much?

If (hypothetically) a massive meet up of escapecraft players and staff was arranged, would you come along?

What's your weapon of choice? (unlimited ammo)

What's on your list of things to do before you die list?

First game was on a Pong home console: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong, and quickly tired of it, first real games I played would be on the Atari 2600, Missile Command and Adventure
Wildwill002 wrote:Do you travel abroad much?
Abroad, not so much, I have been to a few countries in the Carribean area, Mexico, Honduras and Belize
Wildwill002 wrote:If (hypothetically) a massive meet up of escapecraft players and staff was arranged, would you come along?
Definitely, as some may know, I've traveled twice for Escapecraft purposes, I went and met SneakyPie during our first anniversary party last year and again during Minecon in Las Vegas.
Wildwill002 wrote:What's your weapon of choice? (unlimited ammo)
Pistol would be Sig P226, rifle would be Bushmaster MOE 308/7.62MM with a good holo scope on it.
Wildwill002 wrote:What's on your list of things to do before you die list?
Visit Australia, Europe and Hawaii, not necessarily in that order. I'd also like to work for a gaming company one day.

Work for a gaming company you say? Rooster Teeth should be just around the corner!
If you went to Australia, what things you would most like to do there?
When will Graveyards work and when will /gs vanish?
What's the awesomest thing you've made in minecraft? Survival and in Creative (and do you have pictures?)
Whats the greatest thing youve seen in minecraft?
Will you ever change your display picture?
Have you read or watched A Game of Thrones?
Who will you vote for? Will you vote?
Will the information on the homepage regarding our vent server be changed? Or will it be left to confuse people while we laugh at them?
What would you do if you found a Rhinoceros with a lightsaber for a horn?

Director of Public Questions wrote:I hear you do not like underground public subways in Escapecraft, can you explain why?
A good majority of players in the game build to share what they built, meaning that they want their builds seen by other people. You can't see much while zooming through tunnels underground.
random980 wrote:Work for a gaming company you say? Rooster Teeth should be just around the corner!
RT mainly does videos and I've actually met those guys, and have autographs from them. They gave me a few free t-shirts and were really cool to chat with.
random980 wrote:If you went to Australia, what things you would most like to do there?
Since one of my hobbies is caving, there are quite a few caves in that area of the world. I'd also like to meet up with our Aussie players and staff.
random980 wrote:When will Graveyards work and when will /gs vanish?
When they are done and ready. I'd like to say soon, but it takes work and well, we tend to play too much.
random980 wrote:What's the awesomest thing you've made in minecraft? Survival and in Creative (and do you have pictures?)
I'm quite proud of my chess set in creative, its right next to the spawn. Also, my jumping tower of death at wokka's World island is one of my favorite legit builds.
random980 wrote:Whats the greatest thing youve seen in minecraft?
Wow, too many to say, the Hour Glass is still one of the most unique items we have, and the pixel art we have in creative is astounding.
random980 wrote:Will you ever change your display picture?
Don't know, probably if the urge hits me, but who knows, its been like this for almost 2 years now.
random980 wrote:Have you read or watched A Game of Thrones?
No, haven't gotten around to it yet.
random980 wrote:Who will you vote for? Will you vote?
I live in Texas, we are predominantly Republican here, so its pretty pointless to vote, as well as the misconception that our vote actually matters for President, with our electoral college setup.
random980 wrote:Will the information on the homepage regarding our vent server be changed? Or will it be left to confuse people while we laugh at them?
I need to nudge SneakyPie about that again, its in an image that he created.
random980 wrote:What would you do if you found a Rhinoceros with a lightsaber for a horn?
Take a picture!
TEKNOVIRUS wrote:Hey, I was just wondering if there are going to be any additions for the Donator perks, nothing big like flying or anything but there just isn't much in it. Just wondering, doesn't mean you actually have to do it
This is something we constantly look for, ways to take your lunch money, ahem, entice you for more donations. Every month or so we go looking for ideas and when we can find something that fits in, we set it up. I can't promise when, but we are indeed working on new features right now.
Wildwill002 wrote:Do you have any strange hobbies or anything people wouldn't expect you to like/do?
Caving is probably my strangest, as I stated it before as a hobby, people look at you odd when you tell them that you like to go crawling around in small and large holes underground.
Director of Public Questions wrote:What was your best Escapecraft day? Your Worst?
I've had many great days here with our community, my best is probably the first day I logged in and was met with friendly players and staff. The worst was the 24 hour stint of editing the survival worlds together, it was fun, but very hectic since I was trying to hurry to get the game server back up for everyone.
aflycon wrote:Being a Texan, did you cast your vote for Romney/Ryan?
Nope :) see my previous answer about voting.
Director of Public Questions wrote:What's your favorite thing to do in Minecraft?
Obvious answer: run the server

Or, for a real answer, mine or chop trees, its relaxing for me. Building mazes and roller coasters is a second.
Byroe wrote:What is your favorite football team?
Funny answer: Manchester United
Real answer: I don't watch American Football, and the Dallas Cowboys are embarssing. Baseball is the true American sport.
Director of Public Questions wrote:What in your opinion is the Escapecraft Community's greatest strength?
The fact that we have such a great community is our best strength!
