Horses only spawn in new 1.6 plains biomes. As far as I know, we have no way of obtaining horses in the server yet, I could be wrong though!

As much as I'd love to set sail again, I find Sneaky's sudden change of character suspicious as well; If their okay with it, I'd like to assist Random or Tyrese in their investigations. If not, stick me on a ship and I'll go broadside some Griefers too!

I recently picked up saints row 3 without playing either of the previous two and I can safely say that the story is easy enough to piece together without the prior experience of the first two. So no worries Skunk, the game is highly enjoyable whether you know the full story or not!

I suggested in another post somewhere the possibility of making the survival world harder. Hardship is what instinctively drives people to work together, I believe, and so perhaps increasing the difficulty would accomplish this?
